145 songs received for EMA 2015

RTVSlo has announced their call for songs for EMA 2015 on the 24th of November, and in less than a month’s time (as the submission period ended on the 21st of December), a total of 145 songs were submitted to the Slovenian broadcaster, in order to take part in EMA 2015, and possibly represent Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest next May.

The number of song submissions varied in the past years when RTVSlo was having an open selection, going from as low as 70 songs. 145 songs for 2015 is the second highest number of entries submitted for an EMA, after 162 entries were sent in for the 2008 edition, which was won by Rebeka Dremelj and her song “Vrag naj vzame”.

A specially formed jury will listen through all the submitted songs in the following days, and select up to six songs to enter the national selection, while up to another six artists/composers will be invited to take part as well.

EMA 2015 will be a one-night-show, where the winner will be selected in two rounds of voting – first a jury will select the top two from the up to 12 participating songs, and then the public will choose the winner, by televoting for the two songs – the same format used in 2011, when Maja Keuc won with “Vanilija” (with its English version called “No One”).

Tinkara Kovac won the last EMA with “Spet (Round And Round)”, which resulted in the third qualification for the final for Slovenia, since introducing the semi finals in Eurovision in 2004.
