Meet Elín Sif – one of the semifinalists in Söngvakeppnin 2015

Elín Sif Halldórsdóttir is only 16 years old, but she is already quite the “veteran” on stage, though up until now she has mainly performed ballet. She has danced since she was a little girl.

If she should win Söngvakeppnin and represent Iceland in Vienna, she will be the youngest songwriter in the history of Eurovision Song Contest to also perform her own song. (As far as we have been able to find. Please correct us if we’re wrong.)

Elín grew up in Iceland, but she has also lived in Canada, more specifically Quebec, for a couple of years.

If you listen closely to “Í kvöld” you will hear that it’s a duet. On the studio version, Elín sings both the voices, but as you can’t have vocals on the backing tape, she had to find a suitable partner. She needed to find someone who could sound “like a sixteen year old, but who also has experience. And she found this in Hofí Samuels. Hófi also participated in Söngvakeppnin last year, as she was part of the backing group for her sister, Greta Mjöll, with “Eftir eitt lag”.
