Triin Niitoja & John4 talk to us about their entry “This is our Choice”

This time ESCbubble.com would like to introduce Estonian band called Triin Niitoja & John 4 which will perform “This is our choice” during Eesti Laul 2015. Triin finished forth in “Eesti otsib superstaari 2011” (“Estonian Idol”) where she performed songs by Adam Lambert, Nelly Furtado, Michael Jackson or Alanis Morisette.

We had a great pleasure to chat with Triin regarding her career, collaboration with John4, and participation in Eesti Laul. Check out everything she told us in the following interview:

  • First of all congratulations for qualification to the Eesti Laul 2015! Why did you decide to enter the competition?

Thank You so much! We felt the time was right, the song was right – especially made for Eurovision 🙂

  • Can you tell us more about your song “This Is Our Choice”?

It is a duet and a story about two people, who have been together as a couple, but something went wrong. This is their choice to try one more time. It is a love story , to put it simply 🙂

  • Estonian television published all the songs. Have you checked the comments about your entry?

We have actually gotten really good feedback and that makes us so happy! We also did a TV performance already and got so many letters after that! Thank You! Triin Niitoja & JOHN4 is happy! You can check it out:

  • Do you have any ideas how your stage performance will look like?

Yes, we have already had numerous rehesals. Our performance will be positive, sincere and full of joy! We are also planning some surprises, but i cannot spoil them yet, You have to watch the show ! We perform on February 14.

  • Have you checked competitor’s songs? Do you have any favorites so far?

Yes we have checked, but as selfish as that may sound we really do love our own music, otherwise we would not be the authors behind it.

  • Do you think it is better to sing in Estonian or English in Eesti Laul and Eurovision?

The only thing that I believe in is sincerity- that matters the most, of course the vocals too. But the performance, how You perform, what feelings it sends out , is the most important thing, not the language- we are all one no matter the language.

  • Can you tell us more about your career?

I am a simple person, who is engaged to music. I started singing when I was about 4. My parents put me to a singing studio from early on. I started performing when I was about 13. Also finished Tallinn Music School, learned the piano. And soon started to really like the adrenaline that came with performing. I simply loved to perform and sing. I competed at Estonian Idol and ended up on the 4th place, that is what made my name known to a bigger crowd. After that joined a band called JOHN, that Jaanus Saago (also a participant at Estonian Idol, band member, my duet partner and my life partner) invited me to – so now it is called Triin Niitoja & JOHN4. We have written and recorded many songs, recently made a video, that was a success in Estonia, song is called “JÄÄ” (Stay – in English) and hope to soon release our own album and have even a better year this year.

Music is such a beautiful thing – It is so weird how it just comes to you. I write the best songs when I am able to not think at all and just let go…totally forget that I am trying to write a song – just let go…and words, sentences that really do make sense just start coming out..its weird, but so cool, then again I always have to record because after I just forget what it was in a minute. But yeah It is so important for me to write my own music and i am so blessed to have that gift.

  • Are you Eurovision fans? Which Eurovision songs do you like the most?

Of course we are, we are musicians! BRAINSTORM – MY STAR, TANEL PADAR & DAVE BENTON “EVERYBODY”. SOLUNA SAMAY – SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. These songs are really close to my heart.

  • Do you have message for our readers of ESCbubble.com which will follow Eesti Laul live online?
