Icelandic participation in danger?

Due to an ongoing strike among lawyers in Iceland it is now being questioned whether the country will be able to participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

What do lawyers have to do with Iceland’s Eurovision entry, you ask? Not much, actually, with regards to the entry and participation itself. The question is; will Iceland have a valid jury vote?

For years now, one of the notaries at the Reykjavík District Commissioner have been responsible for controlling and confirming the results of the Icelandic jury.  As these notaries are now part of the strike, and in case of a protracted strike, the Icelandic participation in Vienna might in fact be in danger.

Iceland will, hopefully, be represented by María Ólafsdóttir and her song “Unbroken” in Vienna in May. Iceland will compete in the second semifinal on May 21st.

We will follow the development closely, and will be back with an update as soon as we know more.
