Ukraine starts the search for their Eurovision entry!

Ukraine is one of the countries coming back to the Eurovision Song Contest this year, after a break of one year. The national broadcaster NTU has teamed up with another broadcaster STB, and together they have started their search for the next Eurovision entrant from Ukraine.

The Ukrainian national selection will consist of several phases. Starting from now, NTU and STB will accept applications from singers and songwriters, and will hold auditions in the six biggest cities in Ukraine to narrow the number down to the best 20-40 entries which will proceed to the next phase.

All the artists (both solo artists and bands), composers, lyricicts who are interested in taking part in this national selection have to submit their application online via this link. The dates of all the auditions and the cities where they will be held are as follows:

  • 5-6 December – Zaporizhia and Kharkiv
  • 12-13 December – Odessa and Lviv
  • 19-20 December – Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv

By the 15th of January, the best 20-40 acts will be selected to enter the televised semi final, which is the phase two of this national final. There will be three to four semi finals which will take place in February in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Based on the number of participants, two or three acts will qualify from the semi finals as a result of televoting and jury votes. The third phase is going to be the Grand Final, which will consist of no more than 12 acts, and is also going to be held in February.

The winner of the national final, and the entrant for Ukraine in Eurovision 2016 will be selected in a mix of televoting and jury votes. All the shows will be broadcast live on NTU’s first channel, and STB channel.
