Karlotta Sigurðardóttir: ”It would be an honor to represent my country at Eurovision!”

Karlotta Sigurðardóttir will participate in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2016 with her song ”Óstöðvandi”, written by Ylva & Linda Persson. She will compete, alongside 11 acts, with the hope of winning the contest and obtaining the golden ticket to represent her country, in Stockholm, at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

Karlotta took the time to talk to ESCBubble about her entry and her forthcoming participation in the Icelandic national selection. Check out everything she told us, in this interview, right here:

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would participate in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2016?

I thought it was quite unreal at that exact moment to be honest. But still I was very exited and looked forward to starting the process.

Could you tell us a bit more about your musical career?

I competed in the junior college singing competition in Iceland two years ago ( söngkeppni framhaldsskólanna) Witch is a competition between all the junior colleges in iceland and is broadcasted by RUV. And this fall I participated in the Voice Iceland and did pretty good there . And now I am here.

Is there a message behind your song?

The message is that you have to face what is hard and you have to be strong and stand and fall with yourself. You are not suppose to look back even though things are tough.

How did you decide to enter the contest?

Ylva and Linda Persson contacted me and asked me If I wanted to be the artist of the song after they saw me on the Icelandic Voice and of course I could not say no to that. It’s a great opportunity for any singer.

Do you have any goals for the contest?

I would really like to get through the first riddle and to the finals and sing the song in English. Otherwise I just intend to make the most of this and enjoy every single moment no matter how it goes.

What do you think of the previous Icelandic participants at Eurovision?

Most of our songs that have gone to Eurovision are in a very similar style and have the same idea behind it, there is usually the same formula to most of the songs.

Are you a Eurovision fan? What are your favourite Eurovision songs?

I loved Eurovision when I was younger but I haven’t watched it much the past 5 years but my all time favorite Eurovision song is definitely Fly on the wings of love by The Olsen brothers.

Do you have any special ideas for your performance for the live show?

Yeah we have a sort of an Adele-ish, Bond idea. Simple but quite elegant, black, white and gold.

Do you have other passions/hobbies?

I play the piano and a little bit on the guitar. I also like to go snowboarding. Otherwise just anything art related takes up my whole mind.

What would representing your country in Eurovision mean to you?

It would be an honor to go and represent my country in the Eurovision song contest and would definitely do my very best to make everyone proud.

What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support you during the national selection?

I would like to say thank you for having faith and believing in me. I will do my very best and more than that so you wont be disappointed, I promise.
