Sigga Eyrun: ”My song is about getting stuck in the virtual world of computers!”

Sigga Eyrun, will participate in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision, for the second time in 3 years. She will compete with her song ”Kreisí”, alongside 11 other acts, with the hope of winning the Icelandic national selection and representing her country in Stockholm, at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

Sigga took the time to talk to ESCBubble about her entry and her forthcoming participation in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision.

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would participate in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2016?

I was very excited. It was so much fun last time (2014) 😉

Could you tell us a bit more about your musical career?

I have performed on stage both as a solo artist and in Musicals both at Reykjavik City theatre and the National Theatre in Iceland. I am also a well established voice over artist for cartoons in Iceland. Last year I released my first solo album “Vaki eda sef”

Is there a message behind your song?

The song is about getting stuck in the virtual world of computers and not being able to reach out to the people you care about in the real world.

How did you decide to enter the contest?

We, me and my partner Karl Olgeirsson, decided to send this song to the contest when we had finished recording it and thought: “well this could be a fun number to put on stage”. – Do you have any goals for the contest? To put on a fun show and entertain. Winning would be a bonus 😉

What do you think of the previous Icelandic participants at Eurovision?

I think they all did their best and had something valuable to contribute to the world of music in Europe.

Are you a Eurovision fan? What are your favourite Eurovision songs?

I am a fan. I wouldn’t consider myself a specialist but I always watch it and more so now that I have a 6 year old who is very interested. My favourites are Waterloo, Ein Bitchen Frieden, Gente di mare, J’aime la vie, Euphoria and Selma’s All out of Luck.

Do you have any special ideas for your performance for the live show?

You’ll see 😉

Do you have other passions/hobbies?

Besides singing I am passionate drama teacher, I love yoga, my family and Improv.

What would representing your country in Eurovision mean to you?

I would be honoured and do my best to represent Icelandic music the best I can.

What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support you during the national selection?

Thank you <3

We wanted to get to know Sigga a little bit better, we asked her what her favourite … was:

  • Song: I find it hard to pick just one song. But I will say Heyr himna smiður – a hymn by Thorkell Sigurbjornsson (music) and Kolbeinn Tumason (words) is the one that always touches me.
  • Artist: Salvador Dali
  • Book: Bossypants by Tina Fey
  • Sport: Gymnastics
  • Dish: Baked Arctic char
  • Movie: The Little Shop of Horrors

We would like to thank Sigga for taking the time to do this interview and we would also like to wish her the best of luck for Icelandic national selection. Until the show, you can listen to her song:
