Doinita Gherman – “Eurovision is all about uniting the world”

We contacted Moldovan singer Doinita Gherman, to chat about her entry “Irresistible”, which will be competing in the first semi final of the Moldovan selection on February 23rd

Doinita, you have been attempting to represent Moldova at Eurovision since 2009 now, what keeps you motivated and do you think that having done this before gives you an advantage coming into the competition?

Every year I am very happy and excited about it, it’s my 8th participation in the national selection for Eurovision, but initially I didn’t want to take part in the Contest this year. Ylva and Linda Persson, the composers of my song, inspired me to do it! Their enthusiasm, love, dedication, their way of thinking and work motivated me to accept the challenge and I am sure it was a good decision! Each of my appearances on the Eurovision stage mean a lot to me, because it was a wonderful possibility to meet my audience.

I’ve been playing your song “Irresistible” loads of times, it’s a fantastic piece of ethnic sounding pop, and some fans are saying that this the favourite to get to Stockholm – does this put more pressure on you?

Thank you so much! I am thankful to the composers for this song, it’s a beautiful gift and a big honour for me to sing this gorgeous creation! I know how much love and soul is put into a song so I can only hope we will do well in the competition. Music is my whole existence and each participation is a great and important experience for me.

What message are you hoping to get across to the Eurovision community with your song?

The story of Irresistible is about living your life to the fullest, creating the kind of life that you want to see for yourself and to live in each moment. Despite setbacks you should make your own choices and reach your dreams.

Can you tell us anything about the staging you have planned?

The whole team (Moldovan/Swedish) is preparing for a great show! We have the possibility to work with good professionals of the artistic field and we hope to be successful by creating a beautiful fairy tale for the audience during those 3 minutes we’ve got to perform on stage, deserving of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Unfortunately, Moldova have not qualified for the Grand Final at Eurovision since Aliona Moon in 2013. What can you do to bring that Grand Final performance back to Moldova?

It’s important to have a good team to work with that you trust, of course a great song and vocals and good ideas for a unique performance. And finally to keep the passion and write music and perform from your heart as well as keeping a positive feeling. Eurovision is all about uniting the world and bringing us closer to each other with the music!

Do you have any other plans for 2016?

I’m involved in several different artistic projects and TV shows for example “The power of the dance“. In fact, it is very simple, all I want and need for my soul is to sing for people and to be close to them in other artistic ways. I create for them and I give them all my love!!!

Best of luck to you for next Tuesday Doinita, and we hope to see you in Stockholm!
