Rhiannon: “This song investigates empowerment within contemporary reality”

Rhiannon is a newcomer in the Maltese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She is going to try and win the Maltese ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev with the song titled “Fearless”.

We had a small chat with Rhiannon, where we asked her about “Fearless” and the team behind it, the rule-change in the national final, as well as some more personal questions in order to get to know her a little better. Read everything she told us in this interview right here:

Hi Rhiannon! Congratulations for making it to the MESC Final! For the start of the interview, can you tell us more about the story behind your song, and the team who worked on it?

This song is very personal and investigates empowerment within contemporary reality. I had the pleasure of working with Cyprian Cassar on this, who helped me with production and composition. Song writing is a new endeavour for me, and I really look forward to growing more in the field.

How are you getting ready for the night of the final?

I am training daily and practicing the actual performance with all the mentors I have guiding me. My voice is, and will always be the main part of any performance I give on stage, and therefore I am focusing particularly on that.

RhiannonWhat do you usually do when you are not singing?

I am currently writing my thesis for my undergraduate course, so that is taking up quite a lot of my time at the moment.

What do you think of the rule change in this year’s MESC, that only the public will pick the winner?

I welcome this change as the Eurovision is so fond to the Maltese public that I wouldn’t want to be made their representative in any way other than 100% televote.

Why should you be the one to represent Malta in Kiev this year?

I’m new, and my voice tells a story. I have three minutes on stage and there I hope to share all I have to say.

Who do you think is your biggest competition to win this year?

I particularly like Janice and Franklin’s song!

Are you currently involved in any other projects?

I remain a resident member of Animae Gospel Choir under the excellent direction of Pamela Bezzina.

Rhiannon, we also have a couple of questions for you just to get to know you a little bit better. What would be your favorite book?

I’m stuck between “Game of Thrones” by George R.R. Martin, and “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini.

Your favorite movie?

Wolf of Wall Street.

Your own signature dish?

Sweet and Sour Pork

In a movie about your life, who would be playing you?

Definitely, Jennifer Lawrence!

What would you bring to a desert island?

My make up.

Your ideal duet-partner would be?

Matt Corby or Joseph Calleja.

The last song you listened to was…?

“Two Steps Away” by Patti Labelle.

Thank you very much for your time Rhiannon, and we wish you the very best of luck at the MESC Final!
