Miriana Conte: “My song is about my past regarding bullying”

Miriana Conte is a newcomer in the Maltese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She is going to try and win the Maltese ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev with her song “Don’t Look Down”.

We had a small chat with Miriana Conte, where we asked her about “Don’t Look Down” and the team behind it, the rule-change in the national final, as well as some more personal questions in order to get to know her a little better. Read everything she told us in this interview right here:

Hello Miriana! First of all, congratulations to making it to the MESC final! How do you feel being in this competition for the very first time?

Thanks so much! I feel very happy and excited to be going through this journey considering that I’m still 16.

Can you tell us more about the story behind your song, and the team who worked on it?

Basically my song talks about my past regarding bullying, but with my story I wanted to deliver a message to everyone listening to my song. No matter what happens in life you must not let anyone take your crown away from you. Safeguard your potentials and believe in yourself and others will believe in you. The worst thing you could do during tough times is to look down on yourself. Always keep your head up and live a life you will remember. The song is written by Matt Muxu Mercieca and composed by Cyprian Cassar.

Miriana ConteHow are you getting ready for the night of the final?

Loads of rehearsals and relaxing at the same time.

What do you usually do when you are not singing?

Eating, or talking.

What do you think of the rule change in this year’s MESC,that only the public will pick the winner?

Honestly both ways are good in my opinion, but on the other hand it’s nice that this year there’s a change and the Maltese people get to vote for the song that would represent their country.

Why should you be the one to represent Malta in Kiev this year?

Obviously it’s in the public’s hands. My song sends a strong message to those who are passing through a rough time and it can help them get back on their feet, while it has a nice rhythm to dance with.

Who do you think is your biggest competition to win this year?

All the songs have something which makes them special.

Are you currently involved in any other projects?

No.

We also have a couple of questions for you just to get to know you a little bit better, Miriana. What would be your favorite book?

The Fault In Our Stars.

Favorite movie?

Baby Mama.

Your own signature dish?

Chicken with Indian spices.

In a movie about your life, who would be playing you?

My aunt, we are quite alike!

What would you bring to a desert island?

Food.

Your ideal duet-partner would be?

Jessie J.

The last song you listened to was…?

“Fake Love” by Drake.

Thank you very much for your time, and we wish you the very best of luck at the MESC Final!
