Ulrikke, from Norway, will participate in the Norwegian national selection for Eurovision 2017 with her song ”Places”. She will compete alongside 9 other acts with the hope of obtaining the golden ticket to represent her country in Kyiv, at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. She took the time to talk to ESCBubble about her song and her participation in Melodi Grand Prix 2017.

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would compete in the Norwegian national selection for Eurovision 2017? 

I think I screamed! Haha! It was an amazing feeling, and I can still feel the rush of adrenalin that went trough me body!

Why did you decide to enter the Norwegian national selection for Eurovision this year with your song ‘’Places’’?

I decided that I wanted to enter before I even had a song. I’ve always dreamt about being a part of ESC, and just felt that now was the right time. It was august 2016 and I called Tony, who I have written the song with, and said to him that we had to meet up and write a song for «Melodi Grand Prix». We met up, and the song «Places» was made after about two hours in his studio. We have of curse spent countless hours on the song after this, but the skeleton of the song was done after two hours.

How would you describe your song in a few words? Is there message behind your song?

I would say that my song is modern, catchy and it makes you wanna dance. It’s actually just a «happy» song with no deeper message.

Could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your musical career?

Well, I’m 21 years old and almost always happy! Last year I started my own record label, so I write my own music (with some help by amazing people) and I also publish it myself. I don’t have a manager or anything like that, so it’s a lot of work, but I love it! My dream is to make it on my own record label. I started singing when I was a little girl, and fell in love with theater/musical theater when I was about 11 years old. After that I have competed in TV-shows like Idol and The Voice.

Do you have other plans for 2017?

First of all I’m releasing a music video for «Places» that we shot in Sri Lanka! I’m really looking forward to that. I’m also writing new music, and hopefully I will make at least one more music video this year. And sometimes it’s difficult to plan to much, because you never know when exiting things will show up!

Do you have any goals for the national final this year?

I would love to win! That’s no secret. And I’m going to enjoy the moment, because it’s going to be a «once in a lifetime» experience. I can’t wait!

What would it mean for you to get the chance to represent your country in Kyiv?

It would be an honor! And of course a huge opportunity to share my music with so many people! Aaaah, It would be amazing!

Are you a Eurovision fan? What are your favourite Eurovision songs?

Eurovison is amazing!! And I love how it gathers so many people from so many countries. I guess that «Euphoria» by Loreen is one of my favorite songs! I’ve sung that song many times myself. It’s so powerful. And «Rhythm Inside» by Loïc Nottet!!! Loved that song and I still do!

What do you think of the previous Norwegian participants in Eurovision?

I think that they have been really good! I also think it has been variety in the songs. That’s nice!

Do you have any special ideas (ex: dancers, choreography…) for your live performance during the national selection?

I don’t want to spoil to much, but I can say that you can expect dancers, amazing costumes and so much more! It will be so cool!

Do you have musical inspirations?

Beyoncé is my biggest inspiration when it comes to music and being an artist. She is so talented and dedicated to her work!

What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support during the national selection?

I would like to say THANK YOU! It means the world to me that people belive in me and support me. I really appreciate all the messages and good wishes that I get on sosial medias. Thanks!
