Eesti Laul 2018 opens its submission period!

Eesti Laul 2018 is coming and they started by opening up their submission period. A submission for the 10th, anniversary, edition of Eesti Laul that is, since they changed their approach in 2009, leaving what until then was known as Eurolaul behind.

Mart Normet, producer of Eesti Laul and Estonian Head of Delegation, says:

Everyone is welcome! No matter if you’re an experienced songwriter or just have written in your attic so far. The most important thing is that it creates a song that tells something unique in 180 seconds.

Some important rules should be noted, though:

  • One author or group of authors may only submit up to 3 songs for judgement and one artist can be on a maximum of 3 songs that are up for judgement.
  • The song cannot exceed the length of 3 minutes.
  • Foreign composers are welcomed but at least half of the songwriting team must consist of Estonian citizens or residents.
  • Both music and lyrics cannot have been publically released before September 1st, 2017.

There are additional rules which can be found here (in Estonian).

The submission deadline is the 1st of November, 15:00 (local time) and the chosen songs will be revealed on the 19th and 20th of December.

The Eesti Laul semi-finals will take place on the 10th and 17th of February with the big final on the 3rd of March.
