Danish broadcaster DR announced that 687 songs will fight for spots in the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2015 which will be held 7th of February in Aalborg. Even though less songs have been received than for the 2014 edition, DR is looking forward to check all submissions and find the best songs, because quality is more important than quantity, says Jan Lagermand Lundme, Chief of DR’s Entertainment Department.
DR received 872 songs in 2014, mostly due to a higher interest after Emmelie de Forest’s victory in Eurovision 2013, and the fact that Denmark was hosting Eurovision 2014.
DR received the following number of songs in the previous years:
2004: 315 songs
2005: 263 songs
2006: 336 songs
2007: 475 songs
2008: 443 songs
2009: 684 songs
2010: 562 songs
2011: 663 songs
2012: 678 songs
2013: 692 songs
2014: 872 songs
2015: 687 songs
According to Lundme’s words, both Danish and European composers submitted their songs for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Many newcomers and well-known singers and bands will fight for a place in the Danish National Final. Now it’s time for the preservation jury to listen to all the submitted songs and choose six or seven which will proceed to the final stage. DR will also provide three or four artists with “wild cards”. There will be 10 participants of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2015 in total.
This year’s DMGP finished with Basim’s huge victory. He received top points from all jury members and TV-audience and won the right to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with “Cliche love song”. Basim finished 9th in the final with 74 points. Denmark received highest scores from Germany, Iceland and Sweden (8 points).
