Doda and Margaret on top of Internet polls

After TVP’s confirmation that Poland will take part in Eurovision Song Contest 2015, several Polish websites published polls about who should represent this country in Vienna. On the website of the Super Express tabloid, two female acts managed to collect more than 40,000 votes. They are Doda (Dorota Rabczewska) who is on the top with 22000 votes, and Margaret with 20000 votes. Folk band Enej came third but only with 2800 votes. Among poll’s candidates is a popular singer and composer Sylwia Grzeszczak, folk singer Halina Mlynkova, Czech-Polish pop-star Ewa Farna, as  well as the winner of “X-Factor” Dawid Posiadlo. Doda and Margaret are the hot favourites to represent Poland according to the afterparty.pl poll as well. They are tied on top with 17% of votes, leaving Sylwia Grzeszczak with 14% on third.

Doda is one of the most popular singers and celebrities in Poland, known not only because of her voice and music, but as well as her sexiness, controversial attitude and scandals in her private life. She started her career as the lead singer of the rock band Virgin, but she signed a solo contract with Universal Music in 2007. She released two studio albums and one live album so far, as well as 11 singles (hits like “Katharsis”, “Nie daj sie”, “Bad Girls”, “XXX” or “High Life”). She received lots of different music awards and has one of the biggest fan base among Polish singers.

Margaret is not only a singer, but a fashion blogger as well. She released her debut single “Thank you very much” in 2013, written by Swedish composer Thomas Karlsson and Joakim Buddee. Thanks to it’s controversial video clip, this song managed to get a lot of media attention not only in Poland, but in Germany and Austria as well. Margaret performed this song at the Baltic Song Contest 2013, where she represented Poland, and finished 2nd. This year Margaret collaborated with Thomas Karlsson and Mats Tarnfors, to create the official song of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Poland. “Start a Fire” was performed by Margaret at the Opening Ceremony on August 30 in front of 62000 spectators in the National Stadium inWarsaw. The event was broadcast in over 168 countries.

Even if Doda and Margaret are Internet user’s hot favourites to represent Poland in Vienna, it is very unlikely that TVP will start to negotiate with them. It is not a secret that the current director of Polish Television doesn’t want to cooperate with Doda in any project due to a long-term conflict. However, when it comes to Margaret, unofficial sources inform that her management will not accept the Eurovision offer.

There is no official information who TVP wants to negotiate with. As they want to repeat this year’s formula, Polish Television will try to find a popular entry which will gain lots of TV-viewers, same as Donatan & Cleo did in May 2014. It is still unknown if TVP will select an actual hit (like “My Słowianie” in 2014) or if they will pick a singer and let him/her write a new song especially for Eurovision 2015.
