Is it going to be 38 or 39 in Vienna?

Eurovision Song Contest had 37 participants this year in Copenhagen. Some countries decided to withdraw, while others decided to come back to the Contest. The main question every Eurovision fans is asking is:  “How Many Countries will take part next year?”.

The official website eurovision.tv gave us a hint yesterday, but the exact number is still unknown! A total of 39 countries have expressed their intention to participate in the Contest in Vienna. Thirty-eight of them have officially confirmed their participation, which is one more than last year. The 39th country is none other than Greece.

The EBU published an official statement regarding NERIT’s (the Greek national broadcaster) participation in the Eurovision Song Contest:

Last year, Greek broadcaster NERIT got a special permission from the Contest’s governing body, the Reference Group, to be a part of the Contest, despite not yet being an Active Member of the EBU. This year, no such exception will be made, and NERIT will have to complete the process of becoming an EBU-member before the Semi-Final Allocation Draw in January.

The deadline to withdraw without facing a financial fee has passed. We shall find out no later than January if Greece will be sending their 36th entry in 2015, or if they will have to stay home, for the first time since 2001.
