Meet Cristina Vasiu – a finalist of Selectia Nationala in Romania!

Cristina Vasiu is one of the 12 finalists of this year’s edition of the Romanian Selectia Nationala! She is competing for the Romanian Eurovision ticket with the song “Nowhere”, which was written by her in collaboration with Daniel Costache and Dan Andrei Deaconu.

Together with her dancers who will be joining her on stage, Cristina has recorded a message for all of our readers, which you can check out right here:

And here’s everything Cristina told us in our chat about her song, and her participation in the Romanian Eurovision national selection:

  • Hi Cristina! Thank you for taking your time out for talking to us. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for the start?

I can say that I was born with the music in me and ever since I was a little child I was on stage, taking part in a lot of contests and festivals. My first encounter with the stage was at the age of 8 and, since then, there hasn’t been a day without music in my life.

  • You took part in The Voice in Romania. How was your experience in that contest?

It was an extraordinary experience! There, I’ve learnt that things in life don’t happen when you want them to happen, but when God wants them to happen and when the fans want you. But, I can say that I’m glad that the moment that got me out of the competition was a special one. For the first time I managed to sing and dance simultaneously, a thing that I’ve never experienced before.

  • Can you tell us a little bit about “Nowhere”?

“Nowhere” it’s a song for which I worked several months. From the very beginning I knew that I will enter the song in the Romanian National Selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. I wanted a modern sound with a powerful message. “Nowhere” tells a powerful love story that each and one of us live. I wish that everyone would understand that beyond the prejudices and the misconceptions, is the love. Love is for everyone, no matter the sexual orientation, the money, the age or the country in which we were born.

  • How did you decide to enter Selectia Nationala?

I decided to do it in the last submission day. I woke up with this thought on my mind. And 5 minutes before the registration period would end, I managed to submit the song and all the necessary papers. It was a sudden decision.

  • How are you preparing yourself for the National Final?

I began an intense training camp, in order to prepare the moment for the Final in Craiova. I am rehearsing with the dancers, I go to the gym and I work on the song every day, so that in the big Final you can see an amazing show and performance.

  • Can you tell us more about your stage performance?

It’s a surprise! I can’t tell you more, because I want the audience to be surprised and vote for us. You will see a great moment on stage, something that you’ve never seen before. It will be spectacular!

  • Have you had a chance to listen to the other competing songs, and who do you think will be your biggest competition to win?

Yes! I’ve listened to all the songs and I believe that each one has that “something” made to surprise, but most important, to reach the European hearts. I don’t have any fears and I don’t see the other artists as rivals. If I would do that, I would charge myself with negative thoughts and I don’t want that to happen, so I won’t fall for that kind of things. It’s enough for me to see other contestants caught in wickedness. I am going to Eurovision with the goal to make a great appearance, to enjoy myself and make the audience feel good. If I will manage to do that, then I am a winner!

  • If you had a chance to record a duet with any of the 11 other participants, who would that one be, and why?

Hm! Tough question! I never thought about that. Generally, I make duets with people that are relaxed and full of life. I would probably choose Baietii. They are mega cool and I think that I would feel great with them on stage. I am not for duets with strong voices. I prefer strong characters.

  • What would representing Romania in Eurovision mean to you?

A dream come true.

  • Are you a Eurovision fan? Have you also got a favourite Eurovision song?

Of course I am a Eurovision fan. Ever since I was a little child, I watched the show, wishing that someday I would be there. Loreen – “Euphoria” is the moment that impressed me the most.

  • What sort of music do you like to listen to in your free time?

I listen to good music. In my spare time I like to discover foreign artists and find their genius. It depends on the mood that I have! I like Sam Smith, Jessie J, Rihanna and Beyonce.

  • Thank you very much for your time Cristina, and we wish you all the best in Selectia Nationala!
