Meet Aurelian and Alexa – finalists of Selectia Nationala in Romania!
Aurelian Temisan and Alexa Niculae are the only duet in this year’s Selectia Nationala! Aurelian has already tried to represent his country in Eurovision 12 years ago, when he came second with the song “Let’s Have A Holiday”. He joined forces with Alexa this year in the song “Chica Latina”, which they are hoping to represent Romania in Eurovision with.
We had great pleasure to chat with these two artists regarding their song, their participation in this national final, and we asked them about their Eurovision favourites as well. Check out everything they told us right here:
- Hi Aurelian and Alexa! Thank you very much for taking your time out for talking to us! For the start, can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
You are welcome. Well, we are two people and artists with a great love for music with a mission of making people feel something whenever we do what we do best, which is singing.
- How did you decide to enter Selectia Nationala, and enter it together?
Alexa: It was our composer’s idea (Mihai Alexandru) to bring us together for this song. He called me one night and asked me to write him some lyrics for this song he had for Eurovision. And I did them and when I went to the studio the next day to record the demo with the lyrics, he told me that I should remain as a singer for this song in a duet with Aurelian. I was very excited for I knew Aurelian for a very long time, as he is one of the biggest names in music in Romania.
Aurelian: Well, good energies come together. The last time I was in the national Eurovision final was 12 years ago, when I lost to Nicola’s song that went to represent Romania that year in the international contest. And now here I am again, this time in the same team with Mihai and Alexa. I knew Alexa, I saw her in several shows on TV. And I’m very pleased to be in this formula and I dare to say a strong formula.
- Can you tell us more about your entry in Selectia Nationala?
Alexa: „Chica Latina” is a feel-good song, might be the happiest song of the whole competition right now. It’s a song for all seasons and I think it represent our Latin side.
Aurelian: I think Europe is in a search for happiness and a good vibe. And that’s what we intend of sharing: lots of good vibes and good time.
- How are you getting ready for the final?
Alexa: Right now, we are working on ways to surprise you and the audience at home.
- Can you tell us something about your stage performance?
Alexa: We are in the process of rehearsing and hopefully you will like what you see in the night of the Final.
- If both of you had a chance to record a duet with any of the other 11 participants in Selectia Nationala, who would that one be, and why?
Alexa: There are many talented contestants this year. I’d love to work one day with Voltaj, I really appreciate their music and their style.
Aurelian: After the contest, I would surely like to work with Tudor Turcu, because we are kind of high level, or, in our case, height-level… hahaha.
- Are you fans of the Eurovision Song Contest, and have you got an all time favourite Eurovision song?
Alexa: I am a big fan of Eurovision and of course I have some favourite songs. From the recent years I think “Euphoria” might be my favorite, but I also enjoyed Emmelie de Forest with “Only Teardrops” and of course Abba – “Waterloo”.
Aurelian: My favorite song remains Johnny Logan’s “Hold me now” in 1987, a time when melodicity and feelings were put above the noise and the simple beat of the song. It was the year I started hoping I will someday get to be on that big international Eurovision stage.
- What type of music do you personally like to listen to?
Alexa: I’m a pop and rock music listener, but I enjoy relaxing to jazz and chill out music from time to time.
Aurelian: I’m a pop singer, therefore I love pop music. I always enjoyed Tom Jones, Elvis, I really like George Michael, Prince, Engelbert Humperdinck – but I have to say that pop music is my cup of tea.
- Finally, do you have a message for all the readers of ESCBubble who will watch Selectia Nationala, and support you?
Have fun watching the show, have fun listening to every song and be happy about having a musical contest that all of Europe can enjoy. Vote “Chica Latina” for Vienna!
- Thank you very much, and we wish you all the best in Selectia Nationala!
