Michal Szpak revealed his Eurovision 2016 bid

Runner-up of first Polish season of “X Factor” and the winner of National Festival of Polish Song 2015 in Opole, Michal Szpak, decided to select one song from his new album and apply to Polish Television TVP as the Eurovision 2016 bid. He said his name was often mentioned as potential Eurovision participant and many fans suggest him to offer his song to the Polish broadcaster for internal selection. Michal’s official Eurovision 2016 bid is “Such Is Life” which lasts 3 minutes. The videoclip to this entry can be found below:

Michal is not the only one Polish singer openly talking about his Eurovision plans. Pop singer Agnieszka Twardowska, known from “The Voice of Poland” revealed in press-information, her debut-single “Slow Down” will take part in “the National Final for Eurovision 2016” but it is not clear for which country as we all know Poland will decide internally.

Polish broadcaster TVP will select 2016 entry internally and will try to keep it as a secret as long as possible, exactly the same way how they did with “In the name of love” by Monika Kuszynska. The decision was a huge surprise for Eurovision fans as no one mentioned Monika’s name before. Because of popularity of the contest in Poland after Cleo’s “Slavic Girls” (2014) success, more artists decided to promote their songs by calling them “possible Eurovison entry” even if their negotiations with TVP do not take place at all. Earlier this year popular singer Doda used that way of promotion to get more views for her single “Riotka” released in 2014 and to earn more international attention. In the radio-interview she mentioned TVP offered her to represent Poland in Eurovision but Polish broadcaster denied this rumors later.

Right now Polish Eurovision fans are quite carefull with the predictions regarding new Eurovision entry keeping in mind how unexpected choice TVP made this year and how many different ESC-related (and mostly “fake”) statements we’ve heard from Polish artists before Vienna.

According to the official information, Polish broadcaster TVP will reveal the name of selected singer or band in late February. Poland finished 23rd in this year’s Eurovision final with “In the name of love” by Monika Kuszynska. 4,5 mln TV-viewers watched the final show in Poland and Eurovision reached top10 in Google Trends 2015 stats.
