Christabelle: “Kingdom” can relate to several issues in life and society

Christabelle Borg, or just simply Christabelle, is entering the Malta Eurovision Song Contest for the third time in a row this year. After her first try in 2014 with “Lovetricity” which finished in 8th place, and her last year’s attempt with “Rush” which was the runner-up behind Amber’s “Warrior”, this girl is back with another upbeat track this year – “Kingdom”.

We had great pleasure to chat with Christabelle regarding her song in the Maltese Eurovision selection. She spoke to us about the message behind her song, why she is her own biggest competition, and also what does she do when she’s not singing. Check out all of that and more in this interview right here:

First of all I would like to congratulate you for making it to the top 20! How do you feel about being in the semi finals of Malta’s selection once again?

Hi all, and thank you for your best wishes. I feel thrilled to have made it to the Top 20 this year. I am overwhelmed to say the least and very busy with the preparations for night 🙂

How did you decide to enter this Contest this year?

After coming in 2nd place last year with “Rush”, I said now is my turn to turn it up a notch and try work on a better song to better my chances in the Contest.

Can you tell us more about the story behind your song, and the team who worked on it?

Matthew Muxu Mercieca and Elton Zarb were the author and composer of “Kingdom”, respectively. I love working with both of them for the reason that I am included in the songwriting from the very beginning. “Kingdom” has a universal message and it is a song that can relate to several issues in life and society. “Kingdom” has an empowering message and also states that we are all equal and that even though life is tough at times, we have to make it all better for ourselves and get up and try something new but to leave our mark in this world.

How are you getting ready for the national final? Did your ideas for the stage performance all come together, and how is everything going to look like?

Everything is coming together now in the end, but if I tell you everything it wouldn’t be exciting to watch, would it? 🙂

ChristabelleWho do you think is your biggest competition to win the Maltese national final?

I believe that my biggest competition is myself for the reason that I have to make sure I put on a good show and that my vocals are on point on the night.

What would representing Malta in Eurovision mean to you?

This is would mean the world to me. It would mean that all the hard work that I would have put into my career would be recognized. I would love to perform in Stockholm and It would be a great honor for me to represent my country at such a prestigious event.

What would be your all time favorite Eurovision song?

I have so many since I have been watching Eurovision since I was a young girl, but “Euphoria” is probably the one I used to play most in my car so I think that is my favorite 🙂

What sort of music do you listen to in your free time, when all you want is to relax?

To relax I love listening to The Weekend and yes to Justin Bieber but my all time favorite is Lana Del Ray. Her music is just breathtaking.

What do you do when you are not singing?

I work as a full time accountant, but I also love cooking and going to the gym as well as travelling.

Are you engaged in any other projects at the moment?

I am currently working on several projects, one of which is the preparation of my first album 🙂

Do you have a message for all the readers of ESCBubble who will support you in Malta’s national final?
