Deborah C: “I will not be alone on stage”

Deborah C is a true veteran when it comes to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, as she is now competing for the fifth time in a row to represent Malta in Eurovision. Her best result came in 2014 when she finished fifth with “Until We Meet Again“. This year she has a big international team behind her song, and she will try and conquer the hearts of the juries and the Maltese public with the song “All Around The World”.

We spoke to Deborah C about her new song, her team, stage plans, and more. Check out everything she told us in this interview right here:

First of all I would like to congratulate you for making it to the top 20! How do you feel about being in the semi finals of Malta’s selection once again?

Thank You! I’m very excited and super happy to be in the finals for the 5th consecutive year… Let the journey begin :p

How did you decide to enter this Contest this year?

This summer I was contacted by a foreign team to work on a potential song. We shared all our ideas and decided to submit the song “All around the world”.

Can you tell us more about the story behind your song, and the team who worked on it?

We literally went all around the world to compose my song. This year, I have a big team since five composers/authors created my song; Angie Laus (Malta), Jonas Gladnikoff (Sweden), Michael James Down (Ireland), Primoz Poglajen (Spain), Matthew Ker (England, currently living in France). The idea behind the song is that I have been everywhere and done everything but really the only person I feel “alive” with is the guy I’m singing to.  Additionally, we also thought about the “world” and “travel” themes which could work really well for Eurovision. It’s a modern song with inspiration from retro 90’s club music.

How are you getting ready for the national final? Did your ideas for the stage performance all come together, and how is everything going to look like?

Yes, we have been meeting up for team-building and also discussing the stage act. We shared all our ideas and engaged everything together. My vocal coaches Pamela Bezzina and Ludwig Galea are being very strict with me and taking good care of my vocals. I am also doing circuit training three times a week to keep fit. We started rehearsals too and till now I’m very satisfied. I can’t reveal things now regarding my performance but all I can say is that I will not be alone on stage.

deborah c 2Who do you think is your biggest competition to win the Maltese national final?

Honestly, I feel that this year there’s a good number of songs which have good potential.  It all depends on the final night after we deliver a good performance on stage.

What would representing Malta in Eurovision mean to you?

It would mean the woooooorld to me 🙂 It will be a dream come true… Representing your own country abroad is always a great honor and it will surely open new doors abroad.

What would be your all time favorite Eurovision song?

“Euphoria” – it’s full of emotions and positive vibes.

What sort of music do you listen to in your free time, when all you want is to relax?

Pop Ballads/Jazz as it can quiet your mind and relax your muscles. It makes me feel soothed while releasing the stress of the day.

What do you do when you are not singing?

Probably I’ll be at school teaching my primary kids. Besides that I love dancing and even drama.

Are you engaged in any other projects at the moment?

Currently, my main focus is Eurovision but as from January I will be teaching Performing Arts (Music, Singing & Dancing) with two other colleagues of mine. My main area is obviously singing and it’s always been a dream to teach young artists what you love doing mostly.

Do you have a message for all the readers of ESC Bubble who will support you in Malta’s national final?

Thanks for spending your time reading this interview. Thanks a million for your constant support and encouragement 🙂 it means a lot! I hope you’ll like my song “All around the World” as much as I do.
