NAVI: ”We want a European audience to listen to the Belarusian language!”

In less than one week, Navi will participate in the Belorussian national selection for Eurovision 2016, with their entry ”Heta ziamlia” (”This land” in English). 10 acts will compete, on the 22nd of January, with the hope of obtaining the golden ticket to represent Belarus in Stockholm.

Navi took the time to talk to ESCBubble about their forthcoming participation in the national selection and their entry. Check out everything they told us, in this interview, right here:

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would had qualified for your the Belorussian national selection for Eurovision?

It was wonderful news! We were so excited! This is a third time when we participate in a national selection, but first time we will take a part in Belarusian national final.

Is there a message behind your song?

The main message of our song is the love for our country, a modern and healthy patriotism. We sincerely love the place where we were born, and try with our music to set a good example for today’s youth. “The land where we’ve met each other” – is the main song line there.

Could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your musical career?

We are young duet.We have been singing together for almost three years. In such a short time has released two albums. One of them entirely in the Belarusian language “Soncam sagretiya”. You can listen to it on Soundcloud, here. We released four of the clips (fifth in development), took part in many festivals (“Halfway Festival” in Poland, “Dikaya myata” Festival in Russia) and went with solo concerts across Belarus and abroad (Poland, Russia, Czech Republic). In 2015 we received the National Award for the best song in their native language, in 2014 and 2015 the winners in the “Song of the year”.

What were your thoughts and feelings during your performance during the live auditions?

At first we were nerves, and then we were supported by the audience and the judges applause . Of course we were happy and impressed. When you see the audience is happy, you’re going to get a warm feeling. We also felt it 🙂

Why did you decide to enter the contest?

First of all, we want a European audience to listen to the Belarusian language. Maybe for the first time in history our ‘Belaruskaya mova’ may sound at this competition. It’s very important for us.

Do you have any goals for the contest?

We’d like to tell more about Belarus, about the culture and of course to show our music, to be heard by the European listener.

Do you have any special ideas for your live performance (ex: choreography, dress,…) during the national selection?

On the image of Artyom works Belarusian designer Sergei Verinskiy and we’ve already found a dress for Kseniya. But we won’t speak much about stage performance as well. And we need to say that there won’t be any explosions or entrances, the energy on the stage is our main weapon.

Are you Eurovision fans? What are your favorite Eurovision songs?

Of course we like this competition. We are interested in the songs and watch the finals but we haven’t “one” favorite song. For example, we like song “Calm after the storm” by the ‘The Common Linnets’, “Deli” by the band ‘Mor ve otesi’ and many others.

What do you think of the previous Eurovision participants from Belarus?

We are friends with Uzari, and we were so proud of him. He did a great job!

If you were to win the national selection and represent your country in Stockholm, at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, would you sing in English or Belarusian?

We thinking about it a lot of time! We decide to sing a song mostly in Belarusian, and specially for European audience small part of song can be in English.

What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support you during the national selection?

Listen to your heart 🙂 Because very important to be sincere in your choice! Thank you so much for your support!
