Anja Nissen:”I would do everything in my power to make Denmark proud”

Anja Nissen, from Denmark, will participate in the Danish national final for Eurovision 2016, with her entry ”Never Alone”, written by Emmelie de Forest. She will compete, alongside 9 other acts, with the hope of winning the national selection and obtaining the golden ticket to represent her country in Stockholm.

Anja took the time to talk to ESCBubble about her entry and about her forthcoming participation in the Danish national final for Eurovision:

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would participate in the Danish national selection for Eurovision 2016?

So shocked and so excited, I was by myself at the time but replied to everyone via email woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could you tell us a bit more about your musical career?

I started singing lessons and performing when I was 6. I then started doing competitions and Rv appearance later. Appearing on Australia’s got talent age 12 young talent time age 16 and the voice age 18. I always loved to sing and knew that I wanted to do it as a career when I heard my first Celine Dion record. 

Is there a message behind your song?

The message is that there is always someone to help you, like you, feeling the way you do for example and therefore you are never alone. For me it is about the fact that I will always have Australia and Denmark as part of me and there for I will never be alone. But I also think it is perfect for Eurovision because Eurovison is everyone coming together to show there support and pride in their country and how similar we are. It is joyful and inspiring song that is uplifting.

How did you decide to enter the contest?

It has been a childhood dream of mine but I never thought it was possible till I go the email.

Do you have any goals for the contest?

I really just want to sing and perform the best I can have fun and soak it all in. It’s only 3 minutes up there so I have to make the most of it. What ever happens after that is out of my control.

What do you think of the previous Danish participants at Eurovision?

They have all been great so far, they always bring a lot of focus and joy to the competition they are always high competitors and great representatives. Are you a Eurovision fan? I love Eurovision I truly think it is a very cool concept that brings people together.

What are your favourite Eurovision songs?

I loved the song ”Euphoria” it always gets stuck in my head and  ”Only Teardrops”.

Do you have any special ideas for your performance for the live show?

There a lot of exciting things. Mainly that the performance is high in energy and fun!

Do you have other passions/hobbies?

Riding motorbikes, swimming in my dam, cooking and baking, making jewellery spending time with my animals.

What would representing your country in Eurovision mean to you?

I would feel so much honor and pride. It would mean I have been accepted by my country and they have put their faith in me to make a good professional representative. I would do everything in my power to make them proud and to show the world what a great country Denmark is, the happiness and joyfulness the people here truly have represented by the song Never Alone.

What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support you during the national selection?

Thank you for believing that I have what it takes. I am nothing without you honestly I love singing because it is something I feel I was meant to do and I am so glade that you are able to share this journey with me. So many of you have been here right from the start and it has helped me so much. Thank you x
