Francesca Michielin will represent Italy in Eurovision 2016!

The traditional San Remo music festival took place last night in Italy, and it was won by Stadio and their song “Un giorno mi dirai”, but they decided not to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Now RAI has informed that it is going to be the runner-up of San Remo who will fly the Italian flag in Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm – Francesca Michielin!

Francesca Michielin finished second last night with her song “Nessun grado di separazione“, and she accepted RAI’s offer to represent Italy in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. Whether she will be taking part with a shorter version of her San Remo entry, or whether it will be a completely different song, it is yet to be revealed.

I watched Eurovision in 1998 for the first time (by accident), and wondered what this show was where this girl with a cape sang in Croatian on Hungarian television. It's needless to say that I watch this show ever since. 2008 in Belgrade was the first Eurovision I've ever been to, and since then I've been to most of them.
My favourite Eurovision winner is "Everyway That I Can", and one of my all time favorite Eurovision songs is "Igranka".
