Kristel Lisberg: ”My goal is just to enjoy the ride!”

Kristel Lisberg, from Denmark, will participate in the Danish national final for Eurovision 2016 (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix), with her song ”Who Needs a Heart”. She will compete, alongside 9 other acts, with the hope of obtaining the golden ticket to represent her country in Stockholm.

Kristel took the time to talk to ESCBubble about her entry and about her forthcoming participation in the Danish national final:

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would participate in the Danish national selection for Eurovision 2016?

I was very happy, excited and nervous at the same time. It is a dream come true for me just to participate as one of the top 10.

Could you tell us a bit more about your musical career?

At the age of 12 I started touring with my dad, who is a famous country singer in the Fareo Islands. We became a famous duo and I loved singing on stage. I gave out my first single at the age of 14 and the later at the age of 22 I went for the danish X factor. I did not make it to the live shows and was the last person to be sent home after bootcamp. The judge said that she did not think I belonged in X factor but on a real stage making my own music. I was very disappointed, but I had to pull my self up again. I started working with my self as an artist and to figure out which artist I wanted to be. Later I gave out two singles “Without you” and “September” which I wrote and the songs got a lot of good response. I was trying very hard to make connections in the music industry in Denmark. Then one day I got the call from a publisher about the Danish Melodi Grand Prix. He asked If I wanted to try out a song for DMGP and then it all just came together and I was chosen to sing “Who needs a Heart”.

Is there a message behind your song?

Yes, for me the message is that you have to go for your dreams. The lyrics says “Im gonna dream wide awake” and that is just what I am planning to do.

How did you decide to enter the contest?

I was lucky to be chosen to come to an audition and got chosen for the song. I could not be more happy about it 🙂

Do you have any goals for the contest?

My goal is just to enjoy the ride. I think that if one only thinks about winning it can be very stressful and easy to forget how amazing it is just to be in the top 10. So my focus is on the song and the performance and to give it my all.

What do you think of the previous Danish participants at Eurovision?

I think that there has been some really good years of the DMGP and some not so good. But I do believe that everyone has tried to do their best and I have respect for that.

Are you a Eurovision fan? What are your favourite Eurovision songs?

Yes, I love Eurovision. My favourite song is “Euphoria” by Loreen and second, who dose not love “Fly on the wings of love” by the Olsen brothers. It is such a happy song 🙂

Do you have any special ideas for your performance for the live show?

Yes, but I can not tell you about it. But it is going to be great.

Do you have other passions/hobbies?

Yes of course my big passion is singing. I also love sitting at home and making songs with my keyboard. Also I like painting, fitness, and the just to spend time with my friends and family.

What would representing your country in Eurovision mean to you?

It would be amazing and a huge honor.

What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support you during the national selection?

Just that I am a girl that loves singing and I am down to earth. I appreciate every single vote and support, it means the world to me. I feel alive on stage and I will give my all to the song “Who needs a Heart” and to the fans. I really think that this song is beautiful and I hope that I can touch peoples heart with the song and my performance.
