In a very diverse and hard-fought first Semi Final, Ukraine has chosen the three acts that have qualified to the National Final.
Participants who are going through to the Finals to be held on the 21 February are:
- The Hardkiss – “Helpless”
- Jamala – “1944”
- Brunettes Shoot Blondes – “Every Monday”
The results were decided by a split vote consisting of 50% public televote and 50% Jury vote. Jury members Konstantin Meladze (Composer/Producer), Ruslana (Winner 2004 ESC) and Andriy Danylko (Runner Up 2007 ESC as Verka Serduchka) were on hand throughout the night to give constructive critique of all acts and to advise them of what Eurovision audiences wanted to see out of their performances.
Jamala won the 9 Jury votes, followed by Brunettes Shoot Blondes with 8 points and The Hardkiss with 7 points.
Jamala was also the winner in the televote, winning 9 points, The Hardkiss won 8 points and Aida Nikolaychuk won 7 points. Eventual qualifiers Brunettes Shoot Blondes scored 5 points in the televote.
The second Semi Final is scheduled to held on the 13th February, and will feature known names such as NuAngels (Ukraine National Selection 2014) and Viktoria Petryk, who also represented Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.
