Anja Baš started her music career back in 2004, when she was a member of the music group Angee, and this is where she started her songwriting career as well. In 2011 she decided to go on her own and released her very own song, called »S tabo« (eng. With You). After releasing a single, she became a part of Rock Partyzani, a Slovenian music group, they released a single, called »Moj Lubi« (eng. My Dear). In March 2012 Anja Baš also took part in X Factor Slovenia and last year she also released her very first album, entitled »Punca iz Tvoje Ulice« (eng. Girl from Your Street)

As a songwriter, she’s written a whole album by herself, as well as her EMA 2016 entry. »What If is a song about a destructive relationship. Its message can be applied to relationships we have with other people, but it is also about the relationship with ourselves. The question is, how do we manage our own dark thoughts and insecurities. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about self-talk, that we all experience. So, is it positive? Do we encourage ourselves, believe in ourselves, or do we hate ourselves for not being perfect?« Anja Baš says about her EMA 2016 entry.

»With this in mind, I started putting together my EMA 2016 performance. I called my friend Petra Horvat, who is a professional modern dancer, and told her how I see this song. Basically, the idea was to only have the two of us on stage. She was representing the darker part of me, that is why I was dressed in white and she was in dark. The idea of our performance was to show how one person can be a victim of their own subconscious beliefs. On the other side, we wanted to show that we all have the possibility of accepting our darker side and turning it into our own advantages. The last scene in our performance was meant as us being in harmony,« Baš explained her performance on Slovenian Eurovision preselection.

Anja Baš recently released »What If« also on the iTunes music platform, and you can download the song right here, as well you can watch her EMA 2016 performance and official audio version below!
