Polish National Selection goes regional

According to Wirtualnemedia.pl Polish broadcaster TVP decided to improve the format of National Final by adding the semifinals and engage it’s regional TV centers as well as Polish Radio. TVP’s director Jacek Kurski said he wants Eurovision and Opole Festival to be present in Polish Television for the whole year. The plan is to broadcast one round per month and let viewers decided about the results. Kurski added that he is not sure whether the idea will be realized in this autumn. The format of regional selections and National Final remain unknown. Polish Television has 16 regional TV centres.

Those events (Opole Festival and Eurovision) are duties of national broadcasters and of the people who cares to make public media stronger” – he said. The changes are caused by the popularity of Eurovision Song Contest in recent years. Thanks to internal and public selections Poland picked well-known artists for the contest and the tv-rates were extremely satisfying. 6,3 mln Poles watched Michal’s performance during this year final in Stockholm and Poland reached 8th place with 229 points in the Grand Final. Almost 97% of points came from televoting.

It is highly possible that Poland will return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year. Polish broadcaster did not decided about that yet, but all the necessary documents are now collected and the final decision will be taken very soon as TVP is seriously thinking to come back after 14 years of absence. Poland took part in Junior Eurovision Song Contest twice – in 2003 and 2004. Both Kasia Zurawik and band K.W.A.D.ro finished last with only 3 points.
