Yesterday afternoon, YLE revealed the results of the online prevote that has been open for the past few weeks for Finnish residents who have been voting for their favourite song in this year’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu.
The vote was convincingly won by current bookmakers favourite Emma for her song ‘Circle of Light’, which received over 30% of the vote, double the votes of second placed My First Band with 15% for ‘Paradise’. Zühlke rounded up the top 3 with 12.5% with her song ‘Perfect Villain’.

The online votes are added up with the televotes to give the overall public score, which makes up 50% of the total vote, with the remaining 50% of the vote coming from international juries.
So how important is the online vote? Well, the weight depends on how many of both online votes and televotes each there is. If last year is anything to go by, the online votes make up one eighth of the result of the public, and therefore approximately 6 % of the overall result.
