Sólveig Ásgeirsdóttir, from Iceland, will compete in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2017, with her song ”Trust in me”. She will compete, in the second semi-final, alongside five other acts with the hope of qualifying for the Grand Final of Söngvakeppnin 2017. She took the time to talk to ESCBubble about her song and her participation in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2017.
What was your first reaction when you were told that you would compete in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2017?
I was driving my car when my sister called me and told me the news. I had to stop the car because I was screaming with joy.
Why did you decide to enter the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision this year with your song ‘’Treystu a mig (Trust in me)’’?
My sister wrote the song and asked me to sing it for her so I was happy to do it.
How would you describe your song in a few words?
The song is very romantic and sweet Is there message behind your song? It is about staying true to your feelings no matter what other people say.
Could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your musical career?
This is actually the first time I will be performing in front of such a big crowd and I have not been singing publicly. So this is my debut.
Do you have other plans for 2017?
I plan on travelling Europe in the summer.
Do you have any goals for the national final this year?
My goal is to make it to the final night and hopefully win.
What would it mean for you to get the chance to represent your country in Kyiv?
It would mean that my country trusts me to represent them and that would make me very proud.
Are you a Eurovision fan?
Yes definitely. I have watched the competition since I was a child.
What are your favourite Eurovision songs?
My favorites songs are ”Fly on the wings of love” and ”La det swinge”.
What do you think of the previous Icelandic participants in Eurovision?
I have always been proud of our representers.
Do you have any special ideas (ex: dancers, choreography…) for your live performance during the national selection?
Yes we will have dancers on the stage but the choreography will be simple and light.
Do you have musical inspirations?
I think I would say Eva Cassidy.
What would you like to say to your fans who are going to support during the national selection?
I would simply like to thank them for the support and the trust they put in me. I am very grateful.
