European Broadcasting Union fines the Ukrainian broadcaster!

There have been reports stating that the European Broadcasting Union would be evaluating everything that happened around the Julia Somoylova, her being banned from entering Ukraine because she had been performing in Crimea, not entering through Ukraine and thus violating Ukrainian law. This made it impossible for her to perform live on stage in Kyiv.

Today it was revealed that UA:PBC faces a large fine from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The EBU blames the severe delays that arised on this broadcaster and blames them for lack of cooperation over the participation of a Russian Eurovision entrant.

In a statement the EBU says:

As a result of this, attention was drawn away from the competition and the brand reputation of the Eurovision Song Contest was endangered, therefore the contest’s steering committee […] has recommended that UA:PBC (Ukraine’s state broadcaster) should receive a substantial fine, in line with the rules of the competition.

How high this fine is has not been disclosed.
