Five finalists of Operacion Triunfo will compete to represent Spain in Eurovision!

A couple of weeks ago, RTVE announced that their entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will come from the mega popular Operacion Triunfo (Star Academy). The Spanish broadcaster now announced that they will hold their Eurovision selection before the final of this talent show.

RTVE just announced that those artists who reach the final five in this edition of Operacion Triunfo will also take part in a special Gala where the entrant and the song for Eurovision 2018 are going to be selected. After this Gala, the Final of Operacion Triunfo will also take place, so the winner of the talent show won’t necessarily be the same person who will also represent Spain in Portugal.

The Spanish broadcaster will select internally songs which will be composed by well known composers, and these songs will be assigned to the five finalists by their “teachers” in the Academy of Operacion Triunfo. However, the final decision will be on the audience, as they will decide on who will represent Spain in Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon.

Currently, Operacion Triunfo has nine candidates remaining – Agoney, Aitana, Alfred, Amaia, Ana Guerra, Cepeda, Miriam, Nerea and Roi. The next Gala will take place on Monday 2nd of January 2018.

The last time Spain chose their entry in Operacion Triunfo was back in 2004, when Ramon sang “Para llenarme de ti” in Istanbul, and finished in 10th place.
