Avenue Sky: “Our main focus is to deliver the feel good factor of our song”
Avenue Sky are Kevin, Karl, Clive, Andy, Joseph and Aidan. They are taking part in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest for the very first time this year, and they are hoping to represent Malta in Eurovision 2018 in Portugal with the song “We Can Run”, which was written for them by an international team.
We had a pleasure to chat with these six guys, and get to know them better and find out more about their entry “We Can Run”. They also sent a quick video greeting to all of our readers, which you can check out right here, followed by the interview we did with them:
Hello guys! First of all thank you for your time for doing this interview, and congratulations for making it to the Finals of MESC for the very first time! How did you feel when you found out that you guys are one of the 16 finalists?
We were over the Moon, of course. Being called out second relieved some of the tension inside, as on that day when the 16 finalists were being announced butterflies in our stomachs was an understatement!
How did you decide to enter a song to the competition this year?
After careful consideration with our mentor, we felt that the timing is right and that we have the right song for the MESC stage.
Can you tell us more about the story of the song, what it’s about, and the team who worked on it?
Our song “We Can Run” is composed by Matthew Ker, Jonas Gladnikoff and Glen Vella. Our aim with this song is to present to the public an uplifting message. Basically, the song is saying that whatever situation you might be going through, never lose hope, and never give up because as long as there is blood in our veins and air in our lungs you are surely able to rise again. Through music you can find your inner strength to keep on going strong.
How are you getting ready for the night of the final?
Rehearsals, rehearsals and more rehearsals. We are really working hard to be vocally, physically and mentally prepared for the production week and also for the final night.
How do you plan your stage performance to look like?
Being a six member boy-band we sincerely hope that there will be enough space for all of us to fit!! 😀 Jokes apart, our main focus on the night while on stage is to deliver the feel good factor of our song to the audience in the auditorium, and also to the audience watching at home.
Why should you be the one to represent Malta in Lisbon?
It will be very presumptuous of us to say why we should be the ones to represent Malta in Lisbon. We strongly believe in our song and we will do our utmost to deliver it the best way that we can to the judges and the public, therefore, we leave it up to the judges and the general public to decide who should be the act to represent Malta in Lisbon in May 2018.
The competition is on a very high level this year. But which is that one act that you think is your biggest competition to win?
All of the 16 final acts are professional acts and all of them have the potential of winning the national final. We are focused on our song and our delivery of the song and the rest will be left up to the judges and the public.
