Diogo Picarra withdraws from Festival da Cancao!

After allegations that his entry in Festival da Cancao is plagiarised, one of the top favorites to win the Portuguese selection, Diogo Picarra has withdrawn from the Final!

Diogo Picarra stated the following:

There are no words to thank all the support and affection that I have received in the last 24 hours of classmates, friends, family and fans.
My position remains in relation to my music, quiet conscience and head up high. But I don’t intend to feed this cloud anymore. All of what has been created around my participation is no longer music.
I do not want to fail to say how proud it could be to represent my country in a contest like Eurovision, but it does not make any sense at all to try to win this way.
My career and life don’t depend on this, it’s only up to you, and in that sense I know I’ll always be well accompanied.
To all competitors I hope you will come out of the song festival as the next winner of Eurovision 2018, and I will be here, like all Portuguese, applauding standing.
Thanks for everything.

Diogo Picarra was supposed to sing the song “Cancao do fim” in the Final of Festival da Cancao this weekend. Now his place in the final is going to be replaced by Susana Travassos and her song “Mensageira”, who finished eight in the semi final.
