Katarina Bogicevic: “Nezeljena is full of emotions and it’s very touching”

Montevizija 2018 is taking place in Podgorica this coming Saturday, and only a few days before the final, we spoke to one of the five finalists – Katarina Bogicevic, who is going to be competing with a song written by Aleksandra Milutinovic (who wrote the 2007 entry of Bosnia & Herzegovina, “Rijeka bez imena”) – “Nezeljena” (Eng: Unwanted).

In our chat, Katarina Bogicevic was telling us about her entry, her collaboration with Aleksandra, who is that person who inspires her, and more. Check it all out here in this interview:

Hello Katarina! Thank you for taking your time out for talking to us. For the start of this interview, tell us how did you decide to enter Montevizija this year?

I saw the call for songs and the rules of the competition, and about a month before I spoke to Aleksandra Milutinovic because we wanted to work together for a while, and when the call for songs was out both of us thought we should enter Montevizija.

What was your first reaction when you found out you made it to the Final five?

I was super happy when I found out I’m in the final of Montevizija!

Katarina Bogicevic1Can you tell us a little bit more about your songs – what can we expect?

My song is called “Nezeljena” (Eng: Unwanted) and it’s a pop ballad. I think that the audience will like it a lot because the song is full of emotions and it’s very touching. The music and the lyrics were done by the wonderful Aleksandra Milutinovic, while the arrangements were done by Darko Dimitrov.

Is this the first time you are working together with Aleksandra Milutinovic?

I know Aleksandra from before, but yes, it is the first time that we have been working on something serious.

Do you already have some ideas how everything is going to look in your performance in Montevizija?

We have many ideas regarding the stage performance, but I’m not going to give anything away, let it be a surprise for everyone.

What would it mean to you to represent Montenegro in Eurovision in Portugal?

It would be a great honor for me to represent my wonderful country in such a big event. I always dreamt about it, and I hope this dream will now come true.

What inspires you normally?

My biggest inspiration when it comes to writing songs is my best friend Andro. We know each other since we were both four years old. He’s also a musician and writes wonderful lyrics and music. When I started writing he was always by my side and he was helping me and advising me. We went through a lot of things, and he’s the person I admire each and every day, and he’s my biggest inspiration and support.

What type of music do you normally like to listen to?

I listen to pop music most of the time.

When you are not performing, what do you like to be doing?

I really love the sea, and when I’m touring I usually get very tired, so my biggest relaxation is the sea. Walking on the beach, breathing fresh air… Recently I learnt how to snowboard as well, and I’m quite good at it and I like it a lot, so I think that whilst it’s still winter I’ll spend some more time on the mountains.

Did you watch Eurovision in the past couple of years, and were there any songs that you particularly liked?

I watch Eurovision almost every year, and the songs that stayed and I still listen to are “Fairytale” by Alexander Rybak, “Is It True?” by Yohanna, “Molitva” by Marija Serifovic, “Moj svijet” by Sergej Cetkovic, and “Adio” by Knez.

Thank you very much for your time Katarina, and we wish you the best of luck in Montevizija!
