EBU’s statement on Ukraine’s Eurovision participation in 2018

As we reported yesterday, Ukraine’s national broadcaster UA:PBC is facing various issues which might lead to a complete shut down of this broadcaster by the end of April.

Due to this fact, we contacted the EBU, as we wanted to know should this shut down happen ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest, what would it mean for Melovin – would he still be allowed to take part in the Contest, or whether he would be forced to stay out. A representative of the EBU told us the following:

If a situation ever arose in which a broadcaster could not fulfil necessary requirements there are always contingency plans in place, as is normal when planning such a large event with many international stakeholders. However, the EBU continue to work hard with UA:PBC to secure a participation in The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon.

Melovin won this year’s edition of Vidbir with his song “Under The Ladder”, and should everything go well, he should represent Ukraine in Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. Give a listen to his entry here:
