Further clarification given from Franka’s team following plagiarism claims!

For several days now speculation has been rife about the similarities between the Croatian Eurovision entry “Crazy” by Franka and a song titled “Ceea ce iubim” by Romanian artist Guez.

Yesterday we reported that Franka’s team had made a statement stating that Guez’s version was a “rap cover”

Further clarification has been given today to the Croatian site Eurosong.hr by both of the co-composers of Crazy – Branimir Mihaljević Denis Mevlja, stating that the instrumental had been accidentally uploaded and put on sale without Franka’s knowledge.

Branimir Mihaljević’s statement was follows:

Following the speculation about the song “Crazy” and the allegations of plagiarism, I would like to clarify the situation. The song “Crazy” is entirely our work, and for the production of the song I worked together with my colleague Denis Mevlja, also known as the well-known artist Denzel Beats or Denz. For the past two days we have been working intensively to find out how this has all happened.

We noticed that Denis, who makes and sells beats online, had mistakenly uploaded the wrong song to an online store, i.e. he uploaded the song which was meant for Eurovision and whichhad not approved by me as a co-writer. This can also be evidenced in the photo document published by Guez, which is provided by us as an attachment.

The song “Crazy” was composed exclusively for Eurovision. It is clear that Guez bought the song “Blame Me” with a very limited license. I must also point out that he has violated two articles in reference to the purchase of the music from Denzel Beats, actions that he did not have the right to take according to the contract.

Finally I would also like to thank HRT for its understanding and support.

Co-writer Denis Mevlja also made a statement:

“I’m sorry Franka has become a victim of my negligence and clumsiness for which she did not know about, and she was understandably shocked. We’ve worked together on the song for months and one moment of neglect has changed everything we’ve worked on. I know that Franka will give it her all on the Eurovision stage and I have felt this from the first moment when we started to compose the song.

Franka will be representing Croatia with the song “Crazy” in the second half of the first semi final in Lisbon, on the 8th of May.
