It’s that time once again for ESCBubble to present to you some recent releases, particularly those from former Eurovision entrants and those who have tried to get to to Eurovision. This week has proved to be a quieter one than normal, so let’s take a look at what’s out there:
Friðrik Dór & Jón Jónsson – A sama tíma á sama stað
Friðrik Dór had a very interesting and eventful Eurovision experience in 2015! In a closely fought battle with Maria Ólafs he actually took 24 out of the possible 24 points in the 2015 Icelandic Selection Show (Songvakeppnin) but eventually lost out narrowly to her in the Superfinal. Luckily for Friðrik he was asked by Maria to be one of her backing singers at Eurovision that year, but sadly for both it began the recent poor run of Iceland failing to make the Grand Final. In his latest offering Friðrik teams up with his musician brother Jón who also used to be a footballer. Here’s ‘A sama tíma á sama stað‘:
Ieva Zasimauskaitė – Paslėpk mane
Fresh from her 12th place in the Grand Final this year for Lithuania this year, Ieva Zasimauskaitė has followed up her Eurovision ballad ‘When We’re Old’ with a new track called ‘Paslėpk mane’. In a similar vane, the video shows Ieva’s Eurovision experience as she reflects on the contest. Not available on streaming yet, so you can watch the video below:
Aminata – Zero Love
Aminata of course, took Eurovision by storm in 2015 and finished 6th with her entry for Latvia titled ‘Love Injected’. She then wrote the 2016 Latvian entry for Justs ‘Heartbeat’ which also qualified for the grand final finishing 15th. Then she turned her attention to Lithuania in 2017 where she wrote the entry for Aistė Pilvelytė which finished 2nd in their selection. She’s also released two albums since Eurovision and returns with a new single called ‘Zero Love’ which you can sample here:
Highlights – No More Tomorrow
Highlights took part in the Swedish selection Melodifestivalen in 2010 along with MiSt, finishing 7th in Semi Final 2 with the song ‘Come And Get Me Now’. The band are now back with a new lead singer Adam Svensson who is no stranger to Eurovision having been a dancer for Russia’s Sergey Lazarov in 2016. He’s also toured with fellow Melfest star Darin. You can listen to their new single ‘No More Tomorrow’ below:
Alexandra Joner – Chico (Love With Me)
Alexandra is a former Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix entrant from 2015 where she took part in the final with ‘Cinderella’, which unfortunately didn’t make the Gold Final. She’s back with a very summery sounding bop called ‘Chico (Love WIth Me). You can give it a try here:
Elina Born and Jüri Pootsmann – Jagatud Saladus
Two former Estonian Eurovision stars, Elina Born and Jüri Pootsmann, have teamed up to release an unexpected duet! Elena of course finished 7th in 2015 along with Stig Rasta with ‘Goodbye To Yesterday’, whilst Jüri took part the next year with ‘Play’ but finished last in the semi final. You can see how their hook up panned out by listening here:
And finally….
Molly Hammar has released a third song in as many weeks! You can hear her team up with Nause for ‘Breathe’ on own June New Music Spotify playlist on our front page. We also know that last year’s Irish representative Brendan Murray has a new single imminent and we will bring you news of that in our next roundup.
