Submissions to represent Latvia at Eurovision are now open!

As we reported last week, the Latvian broadcaster LTV have now opened their doors to prospective entries for the 5th season of Supernova to choose their entry for the 64th Eurovision Song Contest, expected to be held in Israel in May 2019.

From 1000hrs CET, the official website revealed details of how you can apply to be the next Latvian representative, including the important terms and conditions.

As before, the collaboration of songwriter, producer etc must be of at least 30% Latvian nationality.

With respect to performers, the number of non-residents cannot now exceed 30% of the whole composition of a group (one member of a trio, or one member of a four person group, one member of a five person group or two members of a six person group). A non-resident cannot be a soloist.  The artists must also have reached the age of 16 by November 20, 2018.

The submissions will be judged by a jury from LTV on the following criteria:

  1. The composition of the song – originality, arrangement, message, correspondence to the trends of today’s market;
  2. Tracks and Participant’s Opportunities and Potential to Compete in the International Pop Music Market;
  3. Performer’s vocal abilities and personality;
  4. Past achievements in the industry or the potential for future achievements in the real world and the ability to define their own goals will be considered as an asset.

The regulations page goes on to confirm that the televised rounds of Supernova will take place during January and February 2019, however they do not confirm the actual dates.

The prize for winning Supernova is confirmed as a contract to appear as the Latvian representation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, however, should the performer decide not to take this prize, LTV reserve the right to offer it to the runner up
