83 Submissions for Latvia’s ‘Supernova’

The submission window for Latvia’s preselection event, ‘Supernova’, closed yesterday evening, and the Latvian broadcaster LTV has today confirmed that a total of 83 submissions have been received.

The announcement was made on the official Supernova 2019 facebook page, and went on to suggest that despite the somewhat modest volume of applications, there were still very many reasons to be upbeat about the selection process. There were hints of interesting collaborations and some ‘brave solutions’. Could this be an early indication that the 2019 national final season may see more innovation, with artists across the continent drawing inspiration from Israel’s victory with Netta’s ‘Toy’?

The live shows will take place in January and February, but the specific dates have yet to be confirmed. Our team will once again be in Riga for the show and will keep you informed as more news emerges. In the meantime, we would like to know who you would like to see take part in Supernova, and who would be your choice for one of the ‘interesting collaborations’, let us know in the comments below.

Supernova is now in it’s 5th season as the selection process for Latvia’s Eurovision entry. The branding was formed after a string of disappointing results, and since it was established in 2015 it is fair to say that it has delivered a somewhat mixed-bag of results. Aminata (2015) and Justs (2016) brought Latvia two of their strongest ever results in the competition, however Triana Park (2017) and Laura Rizzotto (2018) both failed to make it to the grand final.

At the start of the Supernova 2018 show, there were performances from Aminata, Justs and Agnese of Triana Park, which you can watch again right here:
