It’s Sarah McTernan for Ireland with ’22’

This morning the Irish Eurovision broadcaster RTE has revealed that Sarah McTernan will represent Ireland in Tel Aviv with the song ’22’.

Sarah is a 24 year old singer from Scarriff in County Clare. She’s best known in her homeland for taking part in the 2015 series of The Voice of Ireland, where she finished third overall.

Sarah is no stranger when it comes to trying out for Eurovision. She entered the process in 2016 with the song ‘Eye of The Storm’ written by prolific songwriting identical sisters Ylva and Linda Persson. However RTE did not select the song and chose Nicky Byrne instead.

You may also remember the song turning up in Iceland at Songvakeppnin 2016, sang by Karlotta Sigurðardóttir where it finished 3rd:

Undeterred she sent the same song into the audition stage for the 2018 San Marino selection (‘1in360‘) however she was unsuccessful in reaching the final 11 candidates.

But now her Eurovision dream has finally been realised. ’22’ is written by Janieck, Marcia Sondeijker and Roulsen, and it will be looking to match the success of Ireland’s 2018 entry ‘Together’ by Ryan O’Shaughnessy, which reached the Grand Final finishing 16th.
