UMK will continue as an open contest in 2020

The Finnish broadcaster Yle has announced the first information of Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) 2020. In 2020 UMK will be an open contest, which is produced together with radio channel YleX. According to UMK’s producer Anssi Autio and YleX’s program manager Hanne Kautto, power and effectivity for seaching new songs and to the competition is wanted from collaboration.

For the last two years UMK has been an invitation contest. In 2018 Saara Aalto was invited to represent Finland and this year it was Darude and Sebastian Rejman who carried the Finnish flag in Tel Aviv. “It has been great to work with Finnish top professionals and produce great shows to both Lisbon’s and Tel Aviv’s Eurovision stages. Now we go to next year again with an open search and create the competition for the next couple of years that combine the whole music industry”, says Autio.

The search for the UMK2020 season will start in November 1st and end in November 8th 2019. Yle will tell more information of the conventions of the coming season soon.
