Slovenia opens their call for songs for Eurovision 2020!

The Slovenian national broadcaster RTVSlo has started their open call for songs to compete in EMA 2020 – Slovenia’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. All interested authors and artists have until the 18th of November to apply.

RTVSlo has split the applications into two categories:

  1. Category A – newcomers (artists who released up to 3 songs commercially, and up to 26 years old)
  2. Category B – established artists (artists who released more than 3 songs commercially)

In order to apply, you need to attach your song in an mp3 format, the lyrics of the song, photos, as well as a filled out and signed application form. Newcomers will also need to attach two videos to their application – one of them singing live a part of the song they have entered to the competition, as well as an introduction video. They have until the 19th of September, whilst established artists have until the 18th of November to apply.

The list of participants of EMA 2020 will be announced by the 20th of December, whilst the exact format of the competition, as well as the date of it, are yet to be announced.

Slovenia has made it to the Eurovision Finals two years in a row now – in 2018 with Lea Sirk and “Hvala ne” and earlier this year in Tel Aviv with Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl and “Sebi”. Slovenia’s best result in Eurovision is 7th place from 1995 and 2001, when Darja Švajger and Nuša Derenda (respectively) represented their country.
