RTVE to select Spain’s Eurovision entrant internally for 2020!

After selecting their Eurovision entry via a national selection and Operación Triunfo in the last four years, Spain’s RTVE has decided that their artist for Rotterdam is going to be selected internally. Just like with Pastora Soler and El Sueno de Morfeo, RTVE promises that once again their chosen artist is going to be very well known, and very successful in Spain.

In the last four years, RTVE has organized a national selection “Objetivo Eurovisión” in 2016 and 2017, which were won by Barei and Manel Navarro respectively. Barei’s “Say Yay” finished fifth last (22nd) in Stockholm, whilst Manel Navarro’s “Do It For Your Lover” finished in last place in Kiev. In 2018 and 2019 Spain selected their entries through the very popular talent show “Operación Triunfo”. The duet between Alfred and Amaia was selected for Lisbon, where they only managed to finish fourth-last with “Tu canción”, and then Miki was selected for Tel Aviv with his song “La Venda”, who had the same luck as Barei three years back, finishing fifth-last.

RTVE is now focusing on finding a very successful and popular artist, who will bring Spain once again to the top 10, like Pastora Soler and Ruth Lorenzo did in 2012 and 2014. It is yet unknown whether both the song and the singer will be chosen internally (like it was the case with Edurne in 2015), or whether the selected artist will sing three songs, and have the jury and the public select their song for Rotterdam (like with Pastora Soler and El Sueno de Morfeo). The name of their act is going to be revealed very soon.
