Australian broadcaster SBS has released the details of the first two performers who will be participating in Australia’s upcoming 2020 national selection, ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides’.
Singers Casey Donovan and Vanessa Amorosi are the first two performers to be confirmed for Australia’s selection show. The winner of the show will go on to represent Australia at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest next May in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Meet the two artists here:
Casey Donovan is perhaps best known for winning the second season of Australian Idol in 2004 at the age of 16, launching her career in the music industry, coincidentally performing a song by Vanessa Amorosi in the finals! Since then, she has released a number of songs including ‘Listen With Your Heart’ which got to number one and a commercially successful debut album.
Over the past few years, she has concentrated more on the theatre space, performing in a number of musicals including Chicago and We Will Rock You. In 2017, she also won the third season of Australia’s ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’. Speaking of her song, Casey said it ‘stopped me in my tracks’ going on to add, ‘This is touching my soul in ways I never thought possible’. Check out her soulful vocals with her number one single:
The second reveal, Vanessa Amorosi, will probably come as a shock to many as she is a huge name with a career spanning over 20 years, with her fifth studio album ‘Back To Love’ set for release tomorrow (November 8th 2019).
Over the past twenty years, Vanessa has released over 20 singles and 5 of them have been certified platinum within Australia. After almost a decade of not releasing any new music, Vanessa identifies that performing at Eurovision and representing her country would be the ultimate goal. You can check out one of her most successful charting songs ‘This Is Who I Am’ below.
Eurovision – Australia Decides will take place on Saturday 8th February 2020, and we will see an expected eight more artists revealed over the next two months. In 2019, SBS Australia debuted their national selection show after four years of internal selection. The inaugural show was won by Kate Miller-Heidke who took winning song ‘Zero Gravity’ to this years Eurovision in Tel Aviv, placing 9th with 284 points.
