Eirini Papadopoulou joins the race to represent Greece in Rotterdam!

In the last couple of weeks, rumors were going around that ERT, the Greek national broadcaster, has selected the Dutch born Greek singer Stefania to represent Greece. Sources now confirm that another singer is up for the task – former X factor Greece contestant Eirini Papadopoulou.

Eirini Papadopoulou is well known in Greece for her music as well as for her participation in the Greek editions of “Survivor” and “Dancing with the stars”. Her song is written by Doron Medalie, who wrote the entries for Israel in 2015 as well as 2016 and the winning entry of 2018. The song is said to have a Mediterranean vibe and will be sung in English. It was sent to the committee by Minos EMI, Papadopoulou’s recording company.

The last meeting of the committee was held yesterday in order to set the list of the artists which might represent the country. The list was passed to ERT for it to choose who will carry the Greek flag in Rotterdam. If all goes as planned for the Greeks, we might be having another name revealing in the following days as the meeting of the ERT heads took place today.

Greece first participated in the contest in 1974. Since then it managed to get to the top 10 not less than 16 times with a remarkable achievement of a top 10 rank on a yearly basis from 2004 to 2011 including one victory in 2005 with Helena Paparizou and her entry “My number one”. Yet, this was not the case in the last few years as Greece failed to qualify twice in 2016 and 2018 and with mostly low rankings in the finals since 2012.
