Ljiljana Petrović was the first representative of Yugoslavia at Eurovision Song Contest 1961 held in Cannes. She finished in 8th place with 9 points and performed the song “Neke davne zvezda” written by Jože Privšek and Miroslav Mika Antić (famous Serbian poet).

In the summer of 1960 she sung at Mali Lošinj, where she was noticed by the director of Jugoton (the largest record label in former Yugoslavia, based in Zagreb) and he offered her to record a label in Ljubljana, where Jože Privšek heard her sing and offered her his song to perform it at Eurovision. Up until that moment, she was an unknown singer based in Novi Sad and from her performance at Eurovision she emerged as one of the popular singers taking part in many festivals all around Yugoslavia, even though she didn’t win any of them she was always near the title.

At the end of the seventies she stepped down from the scene and public life.
She was known best by the song “Neka to ne bude u proleće” written by Jovan Adamov with which she competed at festival in Opatija 1966. From 1989 Ljiljana was writing haiku and in 1991 she published a book, later on she started composing to haiku lyrics. Ljiljana Petrović was born in Brod (Bosnia & Herzegovina) in 1939 but until her death she lived in Novi Sad.
