INGER: “I`ve never felt so good and alive on the stage!”
Estonia’s Eesti Laul competition kicks off this week in order to find their representative for this years Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam this May. We got the chance to speak to INGER who is returning to the competition following last years debut!
Hey INGER! First of all welcome back to Eesti Laul, what made you want to come back again and participate in 2019?
“Thank you, it is good to be back! I think when me and my producer Karl-Ander wrote the song “Only Dream” then I knew I want to participate again.“
I’ve got to start with asking about last years experience with “Coming Home”, we were in the crowd watching at the Saku Suurhall and you got amazing cheers and support for your song, how did that feel and how was it taking part in the overall Eesti Laul event?
“Last year was amazing. I`ve never felt so good and alive on the stage, such an experience. I hope I get the same support this year. I`ve never been to such a big show, at first it was a little bit scary but in a good way., because I never thought that I could made there in this young age. The crowd was incredible and I can’t wait for this year’s show.“
Moving into this year, you are entering with “Only Dream”, can you tell us a bit about the song and the story behind it?
“The song “Only Dream” is talking about dreams and love, that where I ever want to get in my life. I think it is beautiful to be with someone you love and make her/him happy. And as a loving person my only dream is to make someone happy and do something that makes me happy.”
The music video for “Only Dream” is lovely, and you always look so comfortable with an instrument, how old were you when you first started in music/playing instruments?
“I was about 9-years old when I started to learn drum kit and percussion instruments. Then I learned piano, and when I was 14-years old I wanted to know how to play guitar. So when I turned 15 my family bought me a guitar for my birthday. And I fell in love with it.”
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
“My number one musical inspiration is Ed Sheeran from who I got the idea to start playing guitar. There are many more, but I think he is the one.”
And following on from that, if you could collaborate with any another artist who would it be and why?
“Ed Sheeran. He is just amazing artist and person.”
If you could take just one item to a desert island what would it be and why?
“My guitar, then I have the opportunity to create new music and not get bored.”
What do you enjoy doing when not performing?
“I enjoy working out in gym, I think it is good to shut down my brain for second. I enjoy training junior soccer players at “Martin Reimi Jalgpallikool” (Football School) in Viimsi. And absolutely writing music.”
And finally….what is your favourite Eurovision song of all time?
“There are so many, but I think Salvador Sobral – Amar Pelos Dois (Portugal 2017)”
Thanks for chatting INGER and we wish you all the best of luck in Eesti Laul 2020!
“Thank you so much!”
