Nína: “My mother was in the back vocals when we competed in Israel 1999 with Selma”

Nína Dagbjort is competing in the second semifinal of Söngvakeppnin 2020 with her song “Ekkó”(Echo) and we had the opportunity to have a little chat with her before the semifinal.

Hello Nína and thank you for taking you time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be at Söngvakeppnin 2020?
I was extremely happy and honored. This was a dream come through. My mother was in the back vocals when we competed in Israel 1999 with Selma, when we landed the second place but also she competed herself in the semifinals in Iceland the year 2001 and 2006, so you can say, that my family are totally in love with the Eurovision competition and has always been.

What are your expectation for the contest?
I really do believe that I have the best pop song in the competition this year. A song that is bright, nice melody and catchy song. The chorus definitely makes you want to dance. But other than that i am competing with so many great singers and talented people and it is a great honor to be included with them.

Your song is called “Ekkó”(Echo)? What it is about, what’s the story behind it?
The lyrics is about not to loose hope. That light overcomes darkness and to never stop searching for the sparkles in the skies.

You also have the english version, what version would you choose for Eurovision, the english or icelandic one and why?
We would use the English version because we think that if people get to know what our song is about, they will be able to relate too it better.

How will be the staging at Söngvakeppnin 2020? What can we expect from your performance?
Hopefully it will be beautiful and who knows, maybe we will see some stars.

Do you follow Eurovision and have you a favorite song from the contest?
Me and my family have always been huge fans for the competition and we always have a party, we keep scores about who is most likely to win. And though Iceland has not always been in the finals, we still watch.

And any other plans for 2020? Can we expect new music from Nína?
Yes, you can expect me to make more music this year, please follow my artist site Nína Dagbjort on facebook. I just finished collage and I am just starting my career , but my first song Prove it, is on Youtube.

In the end, I want to thank you for your time and please, if you have a message for your fans and our readers here on ESCBubble?
Dear Eurovision fans, thank you so much for giving your time to read my interview, I really do hope you like my song Echo and my performance on the 15th of February.
