Tonight it was time to kick off the Swedish national selection for Eurovision, Melodifestivalen 2020. The first semifinal of this year’s contest was held in the Saab Arena in Linköping. There were seven acts competing in tonight’s semifinal:
- The Mamas – Move
- Suzi P. – Moves
- Robin Bengtsson – Take a Chance
- Malou Prytz – Ballerina
- OVÖ – Inga problem
- Sonja Aldén – Sluta aldrig gå
- Felix Sandman – Boys with Emotions
After all the songs had been heard, it was time for the public to vote for their favorite songs. After the first voting round two songs with the least number of votes had to leave the contest. Based on the public votes it was Suzi P. and OVÖ who were eliminated after the first voting round.
After the first eliminations, it was time for the second voting round. Based on those votes, two of the remaining songs went straight to the final of Melodifestivalen 2020, which will be held on March 7th in Stockholm. Those two finalists were Robin Bengtsson and The Mamas.
Two more songs went to the Andra Chansen (The Second Chance), which will be held on February 29th in Elskilstuna. Part of the songs of Andra Chansen will advance to the final. The two songs that will get the second chance were Malou Prytz and Felix Sandman, so it was Sonja Aldén who had to leave the contest.
