RTS makes a statement: “Svadba velika” remains in Beovizija, it won’t be disqualified!

As we reported earlier today, the Autonomous Women’s Center of Serbia requested the entry “Svadba velika” by Bora Dugić and Balkubano to be disqualified from Beovizija 2020, due to the fact that it promotes violence against women. RTS has now made a statement that the song will remain in the competition, and that the lyrics of the song are going to be changed.

RTS responded to the statement made by the Autonomous Women’s Center of Serbia with the following:

The song “Svadba velika” performed by Bora Dugić and Balkubano will remain in this year’s Beovizija. Recognizing the seriousness of the wrong message that the song could send, RTS decided that the lyrics of the song must be changed, and the authors of the song have agreed on this. The authors, evoking the humorous tone of the song, failed to find an adequate expression and are therefore apologizing, emphasizing that this was not their intention. RTS would like to make it clear that it stands firmly on the side of combating violence against women.

The lyrics of the song have already been changed on RTS’ website, and the song is expected to be re-released shortly on their Youtube channel.
